" Party and Society in Asian Africa” can be an attempt to shed light on particular realities from the colonial condition in Far eastern Africa. With this purpose, Ranger centers his practice on a particular type of ngoma, ie a dance, named Beni, that was born and has developed in answer to the contact between local populations and Europeans. This choice is justified because Beni, that has developed into a very significant area (which includes Kenya, Tanzania, and later Zaire, Zambia and Malawi) and of which usually it is easy to get much data whether common or crafted, can be used like a perfect Ariadne's thread towards the cultural great east Africa.
